Substance Use, Chronic Pain and Safe Prescribing Practices Training

Overview: AUCH is partnering with Dr. Jeremiah West, Medical Director at Intermountain Healthcare's Layton Chronic Pain Management Clinic, to provide this FREE 4-hour training. CMEs will be available for providers. All clinic staff are welcome to attend. Educational objectives of this training include:

•  Identify key features, mitigating factors and basic mechanisms of chronic pain
•  Discuss the connection between chronic pain and opioid abuse/dependence
•  Recognize how to safely and effectively prescribe opioids in a primary care setting
•  Discuss effective communication about pain
•  Determine how to use buprenorphine to help bridge the pain and dependence gap
•  Discuss treatments of chronic pain including alternative non-opioid pain management    
   medications and other effective treatments 
•  Review case studies and audience examples
