Technical Assistance

A core responsibility of AUCH is to offer technical assistance in support of Health Center performance improvement, quality improvement, and access to high-quality, comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare services. Housed within the AUCH website is a wealth of educational and resource materials on a variety of topics relevant to Utah’s Health Centers, the Health Center Program, and the delivery of quality primary and preventive healthcare.

We offer technical assistance in the following areas: 

Access to Care—AUCH provides technical assistance with grant applications and partnerships, including performance benchmarks, service area and target population data assessments, grant writing, application reviews, collaborative partnerships, and letters of support.

Emergency Preparedness—AUCH offers training, technical assistance, and resources to Utah’s Community Health Centers in Emergency Preparedness and Planning, focusing on the viability of patient care and health center stability in the event of a disaster or emergency situation. This includes planning, recovery and response, documentation, exercise development, and policies and procedures by utilizing local, regional, and state emergency preparedness coalitions and stakeholders.

Emerging Public Health Issues— AUCH monitors and educates stakeholders on the impact of local, state, and national public policies, including access to health care; health care workforce; health disparities and outcomes; innovation; funding; and other related issues.

Financial/Operational Performance Improvement—AUCH provides training and technical assistance opportunities and promotes peer learning networks. Training addresses a range of areas, including value-based care, revenue optimization, billing and reimbursement promising practices, grants management, and analytics and benchmarking promising practices.

Resource Library and Relias Learning—AUCH maintains an online resource library and learning management system (Relias) to provide quick and easy access to resources and archived trainings.

Integrated Healthcare—AUCH provides training and technical assistance opportunities with the systematic coordination of dental, physical, and behavioral healthcare. Integrating dental care, mental health, substance abuse, and primary care services produces the best outcomes for patients with multiple healthcare needs.

Data Assessments—AUCH aggregates demographic data, health indicators by need, and nearest sources of care data for a Health Center’s service area and target population. Data assessments also include UDS Mapper service area and Form 4.

PCMH & Ambulatory Care Accreditation—AUCH offers trainings and technical assistance to Health Centers to achieve and/or maintain Patient-Centered Medical Home and/or Ambulatory Care recognition, including readiness assessments, mock tracers, improvement suggestions, and feedback on documentation.

Quality Improvement—AUCH provides trainings and technical assistance focused on team-based care and best practices around diabetes, immunizations, and other chronic disease outcomes.

Health Center Board Governance—AUCH provides training and technical assistance for new and existing Health Center Board members regarding roles and responsibilities, Health Center programmatic requirements, and promising practices.

Risk Management—AUCH provides trainings and technical assistance related to activity, process, or policy to reduce liability exposure from both a patient safety and a financial perspective.

Social Determinants of Health—AUCH leverages partnerships with payers, provider organizations, and care teams to bridge prevention-focused healthcare services with resources to address non-clinical risk factors—social determinants of health (SDOH)—to meaningfully engage patients in achieving better health outcomes. AUCH provides direct services, trainings, and technical assistance focused on The PRAPARE assessment tool, PAM survey, motivational interviewing, health coaching, and health education to meaningfully engage patients in achieving better health outcomes.

Workforce: Recruitment, Retention & Development- AUCH provides training and technical assistance focused on staff engagement, burnout prevention, recruitment and retention, and/or competitive compensation packages. AUCH also works to strengthen current workforce and provide opportunities to expand the healthcare workforce pipeline. 

Outreach and Enrollment—AUCH provides trainings and technical assistance to Health Centers regarding changes to Marketplace and Medicaid eligibility requirements, promising practices, and insurance premium assistance programs. AUCH partners with Health Centers to host educational forums and enrollment events across the state, and outreach-related media and communications. 

UTECH—An AUCH program positioned to help participating Health Centers improve quality of care and patient safety by using health information technology to cut costs and improve care coordination. AUCH provides specialized training and technical assistance to take advantage of economies of scale, including advancing interoperability, leveraging data to drive value, improving quality of care, and optimizing the patient and provider experience.
