The Association for Utah Community Health (AUCH) is a membership association comprised of Utah’s Federally Qualified Health Centers and allied not-for-profit health care organizations. AUCH is a busy, team-oriented non-profit organization that represents and supports its membership by providing trainings and technical assistance, policy analysis and services to improve the quality of and access to comprehensive health care services. AUCH is looking for an experienced and technically savvy Clinical Informatics Coordinator to join our team to provide clinical information systems support, troubleshooting, and improvements.

Job Summary: The Clinical Informatics Coordinator (CIC) is responsible for providing analytic support to follow clinical outcomes for proper disease management and population health management. Works across the organization and membership to develop, implement, support, and optimize clinical information systems. The CIC provides technical and administrative support for multiple projects that support clinical information systems and reporting under the direction of the Program Director.

Principle Responsibilities: The following information is intended to be representative of the essential functions performed and is not all-inclusive.

  • Provide technical assistance collaboratively with health center staff to:
    • Clean/optimize electronic health record (EHR) data to reconcile discrepancies between clinical data and information presented in population health management registries, dashboards, and/or scorecards.
    • Resolve data relationship problems, including designing processes and data structures to ensure data integrity and optimal workflows.
    • Optimize health center utilization of patient engagement tools (e.g., patient portals, text messaging, telehealth, and remote patient monitoring).
  • Develop validation reports to test the integrity of the data captured in clinical information systems.
  • Participate in project/research development and management as it relates to clinical information systems, including consulting with internal and external project staff to:
    • Gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, input and output requirements, and maintenance of project plans.
    • Recommend measure value sets and criteria.
    • Design and validate technical parameters within clinical information systems’ scope of work.
    • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and/or corrections.
    • Support end-user training and optimization.
    • Coordinate with project staff to ensure project data collection is progressing according to study protocol and timelines.
    • Prepare project data for submission to project staff and/or funders, as appropriate.
  • Develop and/or coordinate AUCH sponsored trainings, including identifying trainer, scope of work, marketing, tracking participation, assessing effectiveness, and documenting results in collaboration with AUCH team.
  • Monitor and document project progress and identify and communicate gaps in meeting project goals and objectives.
  • Maintain a functional understanding of existing data sources, structures, and organization.
  • Maintain a network-level perspective on data management issues, activities, and deliverables.
  • Communicate with peers, health center staff, and vendors in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
  • Monitor national, state, and local health information and population health trends and policies to assist in the development of strategies to effectively position Utah’s health centers.
  • Participate in national, regional state, and local workgroups, and committees, as appropriate.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or another related/applicable field required. Related experience will be considered in substitution for academic attainment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word required.
  • Experience with electronic health records and reporting.
  • Experience with population health management tools.
  • Experience with health information, terminology, and clinical outcomes or classification coding tools such as CPT codes, ICD-10, SNOMED, etc.
  • Understanding of relational database design and data warehouse concepts.
  • Ability to apply innovative approaches to solving technical issues.
  • People oriented and results driven.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to describe technical information in easy-to-understand terms.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and priorities/tasks.
  • Ability to travel statewide, and occasionally out-of-state, as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team player.
