Organizational Background/Mission: For over 40 years, AUCH has represented Utah’s Health Centers and their patients. As the Primary Care Association in the State, we provide over 12,000 hours of training and technical assistance to 14 Health Centers and affiliate members each year. Our members include Federal Health Center grantees that provide comprehensive, high-quality primary and preventive healthcare services to all individuals, with or without insurance, regardless of ability to pay. Health Centers are community-based, patient-directed organizations that eliminate geographical and financial barriers and serve populations with limited access to care. In support of our members and the people they serve, AUCH helps improve healthcare access through education, workforce development, community collaboration, and policy analysis. AUCH is designated by the Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care as the state Primary Care Association and Health Center Controlled Network and receives federal support to enhance services for members.
Job Summary: The Association for Utah Community Health is seeking a Billing Specialist to support centralized billing for Community Health Centers across Utah. This role is essential to the financial operations of our Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), ensuring accurate, timely billing and coding to ensure an optimal revenue cycle.
Job Duties:
- Accurately assign appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes in accordance with current coding guidelines.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and coverage details at the time of claim submission.
- Prepare, review, and electronically submit medical, behavioral health, and dental claims to insurance payers.
- Promptly identify and resolve denied or rejected claims.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing and coding requirements for major payers relevant to Utah’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
- Actively manage claim follow-up by monitoring claim statuses and contacting payers regarding delayed or denied claims.
- Oversee accounts receivable (A/R); post insurance payments and apply sliding fee scale adjustments to ensure patient balances are accurate and current for statement generation.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and all applicable healthcare billing standards.
- Generate regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including but not limited to Clean Claims Rate, Denial Rates, Denial Resolution, and Days in A/R.
Position Qualifications:
Preferred experience
- Dental billing
- Billing for FQHCs
- Meditab billing platform
Required
- 5 years of medical billing & coding experience
- Demonstrated working proficiency in physician or third-party billing
- CPC coding credential through AHIMA or AAPC in good standing – required
- Ability to learn/navigate billing systems/clearinghouses proficiently
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively
