Event Overview
Join the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Association for Utah Community Health for an interactive session focused on breast cancer screening best practices. ACS staff will review current screening guidelines, effective strategies for increasing screening rates, and the use of data to support quality improvement in FQHC settings. The session will conclude with insights from Gabriela Portugal Bouza of Alliance Community Services on the vital role Community Health Workers (CHW) play in supporting breast cancer education, outreach, and navigation across Utah communities.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Review the latest ACS breast cancer screening guidelines, including age-based recommendations and considerations for high-risk populations.
- Identify practical best practices and workflow strategies to increase breast cancer screening rates in FQHC settings.
- Use screening data to identify gaps, track progress, and guide quality improvement initiatives in their clinics.
- Understand how CHWs can support outreach, patient education, and navigation for screening, with insights shared by Gabriela Portugal Bouza from Alliance Community Services at the conclusion of the session.
- Explore opportunities for collaboration between clinical teams and community-based organizations to promote equitable access to breast cancer screening across Utah.
