Event Overview
Screening for domestic violence and intimate partner violence (DV/IPV) is a critical part of patient care—but it’s not just about asking questions. It’s about asking them in a way that promotes safety, respect, and trust. This training will help healthcare staff build skills and confidence in having these sensitive conversations. Participants will learn when and how to screen for DV/IPV, what language to use, and how to respond when a patient discloses abuse. The session will also address common barriers to screening and offer practical tips for incorporating best practices into daily workflows.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the health impacts and warning signs of DV/IPV
- Use recommended tools and phrasing to screen patients effectively
- Respond appropriately to disclosures and provide safe next steps
- Recognize how to adapt screening approaches to fit clinical roles and settings
