Event Overview
This session will review the evidence for primary HPV screening for cervical cancer, and discuss successful strategies for patient engagement with the method, practical clinic workflow, and successful results collection for population health programs. Educational Content: Didactic education and practical implementation examples shared by clinics that have developed successful workflows.
Training Objectives:
- Recognize clinical opportunities for primary HPV collection through self-collection and indications for this mode of screening.
- Determine the process for capturing HPV self-test samples, including patient education in their own clinical setting.
- Establish a workflow for processing HPV self-tests and documenting and reporting results
This session, delivered virtually, is approved for 1.5 credits from the AAFP (1.5 AMA/AAFP Equivalency). AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.

Dr. Deanna Kepka, PhD, MPH – Investigator, Huntsman Cancer Institute; Professor, College of Nursing at the University of Utah
Deanna Kepka, PhD, MPH, is an investigator at Huntsman Cancer Institute and Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Utah. She is a nationally recognized leader in HPV vaccination and HPV-related cancer prevention, leading the 500-member Mountain West HPV Vaccination Coalition. Dr. Kepka’s research focuses on community-based HPV vaccination and cancer prevention interventions for underserved populations, particularly rural and Hispanic communities. She has over 15 years of experience working with at-risk communities in the U.S. and internationally, developing culturally tailored HPV education strategies that improve vaccine knowledge and uptake.
