This presentation explores weight bias in healthcare and its far-reaching effects on both patients and providers. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what weight bias is, how it shows up in clinical settings, and why it matters. We will examine the impact of weight bias on patient care, health outcomes, and provider decision-making, along with the limitations of BMI and current research on excess weight as a measure of health risk.

The session will also focus on practical strategies to combat weight bias and introduce principles of weight-inclusive care. Through real-world case studies, attendees will see how weight bias can influence patient experiences and outcomes—and how more inclusive approaches can improve care delivery.
