OVERVIEW
Join your Health Center peers to learn, share, and celebrate. Whether you are new to your role or a seasoned health center staff, this retreat has something for you. Take the opportunity to learn new concepts, concentrate on specific topics, and network with other health center collogues. Attendees are encouraged to invite their spouse/partner to join them for meals during the summit.
Leadership Track (Registration is required) - This track is intended to be as flexible as possible across leader level, global region, and industry. Prime audience are leaders responsible for creating a culture of leadership. Learn more about this track in the agenda + session overviews below.

Hotel reservations are part of the event registration. AUCH negotiated a reduced room rate through Friday night, giving attendees the opportunity to continue their Homestead Resort visit. The room block for 1 King and 2 Queens is $230/per night (tax + fees included) and Suites are $295/per night (tax + fees included). Reservations must be made on or before Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in order to receive the discounted rate.

Tim Ziakas joined the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL)® in 2019 after a variety of entrepreneurial ventures, including a career in wealth management, commercial real estate investing, and advising organizations on their marketing, branding, and strategic partnership initiatives. When Tim first joined the Center, he served in a Strategic Business Partner role helping to expand relationships with organizations in the Midwest. Soon thereafter, he was part of a small team chosen to stand up a new venture at the Center, currently known as the Channel Partner Network. It was here that the Center set up a partner ecosystem to support coaches, consultants, and higher education institutions by leveraging tools and programs in their work with clients. Colleen Meiman is the National Policy Advisor for state and regional associations of Community Health Centers (CHCs), often called Primary Care Associations (PCAs). Previously, she spent six years with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) as the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Senior Policy Advisor. She also spent more than two decades in the Federal government, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary’s Office, the US Senate, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and numerous positions within the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Colleen’s expertise is in federal programs such as 340B, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Community Health Center Program.

Jennifer Genua-McDaniel is the founder and CEO of Genua Consulting, LLC. In 2005, Jennifer immigrated from Canada to the United States to work in a Community Health Center. With 18 years of experience, including 8 years as a CEO, she brings extensive expertise in operations and governance. Jennifer collaborates closely with the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC), participating as a reviewer for operational site visits and providing training and technical support to community health centers and primary care associations. Her unique perspective, gained from serving as a former health center board member, enables her to guide boards toward becoming generative and effective.
Jennifer is the founder of the McDaniel Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to support non-health-related initiatives, with a particular focus on literacy, the arts, and marginalized communities.

Jeff is a member of FORVIS National Healthcare Group and the firm’s community health center practice leader. He manages audit and cost report preparation services and provides consulting services in the areas of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, federal grant reporting and operational issues. Jeff also serves as a firmwide resource regarding federal audit guidelines and their application to community health centers.
His expertise is routinely called upon by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and many state primary care associations for financial analysis of issues important to community health centers. He serves as a resource to several state primary care associations on their Medicaid prospective payment system (PPS) including the cost report submission and settlement process and the process for updating PPS rates. He also provides training to individual health center management teams and boards of directors on financial management issues.
Jeff, an avid public speaker, frequently presents on community health center topics for the NACHC and several state primary care associations. He also conducts presentations for private and governmental organizations seeking to develop the community health center model for their communities. Jeff has co-authored articles on community health center accounting as well as operational and reimbursement topics for national as well as FORVIS publications.
He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Missouri Society of CPAs.
Jeff is a 1994 graduate of Missouri State University, Springfield, with a B.S. degree in accounting.

Break-out Session - Mark Lurtz
Mark is a member of FORVIS’ Healthcare Practice and provides consulting and advisory services as part of the CHC practice. He works alongside state primary care organizations and health centers on a broad range of topics, assessing primary care organization member needs and identifying strategic approaches using FORVIS’ extensive services and resources.
His services include providing Pulse training and uses, training program development, financial and operational dashboard development and analysis, productivity analysis and reporting, financial and operational strategy, capital project strategy planning, financial feasibility studies, needs assessments, financial dashboard management reporting, decision-making with data, compensation survey analysis and reporting, and various other healthcare consulting projects identified in conjunction with primary care organization staff.
Mark’s experience includes more than 20 years in the health center industry developing strategic partnerships with primary care organizations, Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Agriculture, HRSA National Training and Technical Assistance Partnerships, and other health center related organizations. He is a speaker on CHC topics, providing training for state primary care associations, individual health center management, and boards of directors. Mark is a graduate of University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, with a B.S. degree in business administration/marketing.

Break-out Session - Luke Malek
Luke is a founding attorney and co-owner at Smith + Malek. He practices in the areas of business, healthcare and municipal law, including transactions and litigation. He strives to make the world a better place in all he does. Luke was raised in Northern Idaho and attended the College of Idaho in Caldwell, graduating in 2004. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Luke worked for the Office of the Governor as the Regional Director in Northern Idaho under former Governor Jim Risch. Luke also worked as the Executive Director of the Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency. Luke earned his J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in Moscow in 2010. After serving as a deputy prosecutor for Kootenai County, Luke served as corporate counsel for Heritage Health in Coeur d’Alene and then founded Smith + Malek in 2015 with Peter J. Smith IV. Luke represented North Idaho’s District 4 in the Idaho Legislature from 2012-2018.

Caitlin is licensed to practice law in Idaho, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, and primarily focuses on healthcare, and business law. Caitlin grew up on the west coast and attended Whitworth University, followed by Gonzaga University School of Law, where she graduated cum laude in 2013. Caitlin joined Smith + Malek in 2017 after working as a litigation attorney in Spokane. Caitlin volunteers as a commissioner for the Dalton Gardens Planning and Zoning Commission and loves to volunteer at her daughters’ schools. Caitlin and her family live in Dalton Gardens with their horses, dogs, cats and various other farm pets all named after Top Gun characters. In her free time, Caitlin enjoys riding her horses, hiking, and fly-fishing.

Melissa is the owner and CEO of Coleman Associates. Melissa started with Coleman when she was a pre-Med student and the team leader of her CHC’s process redesign team in 1999. In the 2000s mentored by Roger Coleman, Melissa managed the majority of the Coleman Associates social services work (food stamps, Medicaid, Immigration), as well as PVR™ and Access improvement collaboratives. Under Melissa’s leadership Patient Visit Redesign™ and access improvement were blended for a powerful and time-saving approach to improvement: DPI™ (Dramatic Performance Improvement) Collaboratives and Rapid DPI™ program. As CEO, Melissa has shepherded Coleman’s growth and developed many firsts: performance Dashboards program for clients, a tailored model for private practices, a tailored specialty care access program, a concretized Tactical Nurse™ training program, the Indispensible MA program, and architectural partnerships. Melissa is both a process redesigner and a digital process designer. Melissa founded the nationally utilized online training program (www.Vroom.Training) and began the development of Coleman’s video training tools. Besides her clinical skills and experience in the public health setting, Melissa has also worked for an insurer, a health care marketing firm and in the hospital setting where she developed a Cultural Diversity and Interpretive Services Department. When in Boulder, Melissa loves to tap into her farm family upbringing by gardening and cooking with her family. Melissa speaks Spanish fluently.
