Next Level Skills for CHC Managers and Supervisors (NLS)

Event Overview:  The “Next Level Skills” training is a step up from the CORE Competency Training (described above), allowing health center managers and supervisors to delve deeper into the best practices, knowledge, and skills needed to be a great manager. This course begins with a review of crucial skills needed to hire, coach, retain, and manage others.  Participants will then move to higher-level learning for managing conflict with employees, patients, and peers; understanding basic financial concepts important for decision making and skillful management; and utilizing strategies for circumventing or avoiding burnout in themselves and others. In addition, the course includes the popular “Staying Legally Compliant While Managing Employees” session which provides up-to-date legal information and allows participants to ask practical questions related to this critical and ever-changing arena.  Following the face to face training, participants will access an additional distance learning module and consultation to support their of implementation new skills and tools in the home health center.  Join us for this opportunity to take your skills, your department, and your health center to the next level.

Course Objectives – Participants will Learn to:

• Strengthen employee engagement to increase staff productivity, satisfaction and retention.
• Utilize Behavioral Interviewing techniques to hire employees with the right skills and fit for the long term.
• Effectively de-escalate and manage conflict.
• Coach and develop employees and drive accountability.
• Understand basic financial concepts to increase your effectiveness.
• Maintain legal compliance when handling day-to-day management issues.
• Strengthen your decision-making process.
• Manage or circumvent burn-out in yourself and others.

Course Components: This course contains a balance of face-to-face, virtual, group, and one-on-one educational and networking components, including:

• Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20, 2019 – Two-day in-person training
• April 4, 2019, 11:30AM-12:45PM MT / 12:30PM-1:45PM CT – “Managing a Diverse Workforce” webinar.
• May 2, 2019, 11:30AM-1:00PM MT / 12:30PM-2:00PM CT –  Conference call check-in with participants to answer questions, share experiences, and reinforce learning.
• March-June 2019 – Individual Capstone Project in the home health center
  • To reinforce the critical skills, strategies, and ideas gained at the face-to-face session, each participant will complete a Capstone Project when they return to their home health center to strengthen management skills in an area of their choice and benefit their health center.  Individual projects can be as simple or complex as is most appropriate for each participant, from sharing new skills with other managers at the home health center, to implementing one of the strategies or ideas gained at the in-person training.
