Registration includes "Type 2 Diabetes Basics" by The International Diabetes Center and a Participant and Facilitator Training Box that registrants will use to host their own trainings with patients. 

TARGET AUDIENCE: Quality Improvement staff

OVERVIEW: Living Your Best Life (with Diabetes!) Master Training will provide community health leaders with an overview of the LYBL curriculum and the philosophy behind it, including facilitation and adult learning theory. This interactive training will review and model each of the seven lessons, and includes hands-on practice of lesson activities by participants. Training participants will walk away excited and confident in their ability to successfully offer a LYBL (with Diabetes!) program in their community.

Master Training participants will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits of group diabetes education and engagement for a person with diabetes.
  • Facilitate the seven-lesson LYBL (with Diabetes!) program in their community.


Teresa Hicks is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a registered dietitian. She has spent the last 25 years working in tribal and rural health. Teresa travels throughout Alaska and the western United States talking to people with diabetes, listening to people’s thoughts and concerns about health in their community, and teaching community health workers and health professionals about diabetes and chronic disease prevention. Teresa has written multiple health curriculums, including curriculums on nutrition and diabetes for Indian Health Services and the American Diabetes Association. Her curriculum and nationally award-winning course The Advanced Diabetes Health Aide Course has been offered continuously for the last 20 years throughout the state of Alaska. Her curriculum Living Your Best Life (with Diabetes!) is currently being used by community health centers throughout several western states.
